Blues falling down like hail, blues falling down like hail - Andy Seed has played slap bass in many rockabilly and blues bands over the years, most notably The Sonics and 706 Union Avenue. I first met Andy in 1978, not long after that we both burnt our Drape jackets, bought lumberjack jackets to replace them with and had our hair cut in to a Mac Curtis style flat tops. The first bass I remember Andy having was made from an old tea chest and broom handle. Here he can be seen taking my diddley bo for a test drive.

Seen my smiles and touched my tears - Two old tins of Sulficide, used to treat mildew and scab on apple trees by gardeners many years ago. Found in a garden shed in Broadstairs.

To see this good crop that we finally got - The first pick of this year's broad beans off of the allotment.

You'll never make a saint of me - This well worn St Christopher necklace used to belong to my Mum, she had it for as long as I can remember. As St Christopher is the patron saint of travellers it now sits safely in a small lockable compartment on our motorbike.

Well you wiggle and you shake like a big rattlesnake - Close up detail of the iron work on one of the benches at Ramsgate's Royal Harbour.

I bring you apples, peaches, bananas and pears - This is another of Lin's finds, a wooden crate used for shipping fruit. Pheasant Ridge was an American fruit exporters based in San Francisco.

Lies beyond the gates of dark and light - Both Lin and I like to visit public gardens and very often the out buildings can be just as interesting as the plants. This shot was taken today whilst visiting Goodnestone Park Gardens near Canterbury in Kent.

Pictures of Lily helped me feel alright - Despite the heavy rain storms earlier this afternoon some flowers in the garden are still looking beautiful, such as this lily which came into bloom this morning.

Coming colours in the air - Lovely mosaic made my our good friend Jo Letchford. Her inspiration for it came from discarded letters from The Emporium at the bottom of The Old High Street in Folkestone, which is also where Jo's shop is. You can find out more about Jo, her work and mosaic courses by clicking here.

I don't need the time of day - Public telephones are becoming harder and harder to find these days. It's nice that British Telecom have kept some of the old red ones like this one just down the road from Dover Castle. It's good to look back at things like this and be nostalgic, but we tend to forget the bad things. Who remembers that these red boxes also doubled as public toilets and how did we ever learn to make a telephone call whilst holding our breath?

The monkey looked the buzzard right dead in the eye - I couldn't resist one more photograph of The Red Arrows. They left the airport at Manston at midday today for the 31 minute flight back to Scampton.

I hope you're always gonna be around - The Red Arrows at the second day of Margate's Big Event. The rain stopped and the sun came out for their 25 minute display. Once they were back at Manston the rain started again.

A mission every night - One of the two Lancasters that are still airworthy out of the 7377 that were built. She was built in 1945 and used for Photographic Reconnaissance duties with 82 Squadron in East and South Africa. She later appeared in two movies ‘Operation Crossbow’ and ‘The Guns of Navarone’. Now she is the centrepiece of The Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight and along with two Spitfires she appeared at Margate's Big Event.

Rape, murder! It's just a shot away - It was probably some of this chap's close relatives that decimated my courgette and butternut squash plants. They've had a go at my lettuce, peas, runner beans and several other of my crops. Now, thanks to some organic slug pellets everything is under control again. Order has been restored.

sdaeh rieht edih dna nur yeht semoc niar eht fI -I had to postpone a shoot in Folkestone today because of the weather forecast. BBC South East said that there would be rain across all of Kent today starting at about nine this morning and continuing throughout the day. It was pretty much correct in Ramsgate, it started about ten and instead of being continuos it was more a case of heavy showers and a bit of sunshine in between. I spoke to my client on the telephone this afternoon and she told me that Folkestone had one light shower, but for the rest of the day there was blue sky and sunshine.

Tarzan drove a stingray - Not a sight you would of wanted to see in early 1944. This is one of Hitler's V1 flying bombs, often known as doodlebugs or buzz bombs because of the sound made by it's engine. The German's launched thousands of these from Calais in northern France aimed towards London. Each one carried a one ton warhead.

With only one string you can't go wrong - I found a good use for the old lager bottle from under my floorboards. A few bits of old wood, some screws, the bottle, a cheap pickup and a guitar string and you've got a diddley bo! Now all I need to do is learn how to play it.

13 June 2011

You'd better hide the bottle - Whilst replacing some floorboards in our hallway today, I got an interesting look at what was under the floor. I'm no expert, but I'm guessing that the lager bottle is not from the original Edwardian builders!

A heavy, heavy monster sound - There's a little old tool shop in Ramsgate with this ingenious door handle.

We're gonna have a good time - Happy 50th birthday to our good friend Debbie! I hear The Red Arrows are turning up for you.

Wear your blue and see us through - Today I stumbled on my old Esso FA Cup Centenary Coins collection from 1972. Every time you bought some fuel at an Esso filling station you would get one of these coins in a sealed wrapper. I don't know why I still have them, I have no interest in football now. I have two memories of them, firstly when you put them in the album if you pressed too hard they would pop right out of the back! Secondly, every time we bought some petrol my Dad would always be cheeky to the sales girl and come back with a large handful of these coins for me.

The days are bright and filled with pain - Now just a place to store odds and ends in my garden shed, this piece of wood used to be the shelf that stored the survival suits that were used during the reliefs of the Tongue lightship in the Thames Estuary.

They say it's your birthday - In a couple of months time Margate's Winter Gardens will be celebrating it's 100th birthday. It's good to see that Thanet District Council have been looking after the old girl.

Hear how they cry - It's amazing what a seagull will do just to get a chip.

If the rain comes they run and hide their heads - We walked up to Government Acre this afternoon to see the cars and bikes that were coming to Ramsgate for the 30th Bucket & Spade Run. Sadly, it has been raining steadily for most of the day and by the time we got there most of the cars and bikes that did come had already left.

Now, I don't want no cabbage sprouts - Today we dug the first potatoes of the year on our allotment. It's always a special day, and less than two hours after this photograph was taken some of these potatoes had been steamed, covered with fresh parsley, melted butter and pepper and then eaten!

I see rainbows in the evening - In return for supplying me with interesting items to photograph, such as the seagull egg from two days ago, I have to maintain Lin's tools and machinery, today I had to sort out a problem with her lawnmower.

I used to cook your meals and bring to your door - Whilst out gardening LIn finds many interesting items for me to photograph such as this seagull egg.
