Damp mornings and spiders in the garden make for some interesting photographs this time of the year.

Whilst out cycling this morning I turned a corner and almost ran over Mr Pooh. He didn't look well and had obviously spent the night in the alley. Looks like he's back on the nectar again.

3 May 2012

After surviving the wettest April on record we appear to be entering what could become the wettest May since records began. Hardly a day goes by without any rain and we still have a hosepipe ban!

Thousands of people filled every vantage point for this mornings demolition of the cooling towers and chimney at Richborough power station in east Kent. The towers crumpled like they were made of cardboard and the whole thing was over in less than a minute. Driving past the site later in the day was very odd, all that was left are the three bases. If you need a reminder of how it looked before today go back to the post of 7 March 2012.

Lin and I visited Margate today to see the Turner exhibition at the Turner Contemporary and we both really enjoyed it. The Turner Contemporary had brought a lot of visitors to Margate, many more than they thought and it has helped to improve the immediate area around the gallery, but if you go more than a few hundred yards from the gallery the sad, worn out side of Margate is only too evident.

Only four days to go before these towers at the old Richborough power station get demolished. Built in 1962 and unused for many years the three cooling towers and the tall chimney have been a blot on the landscape of East Kent for 50 years. Some people have even campaigned to save them, thank goodness they lost their battle.

The broad beans on our allotment have survived the recent snow and cold weather, but they are showing signs of being nibbled. We planted them a few months ago to give them chance to beat the cold and give us a slightly earlier crop. The old wives story says that if you plant them in late autumn they don't suffer later on with blackfly. Up until a couple of years ago we always found that to be true, but in the last two years we have had bad attacks of blackfly.

View from the end of The East Pier at Ramsgate's Royal Harbour. It wasn't until recently when I saw an old railway poster advertising Ramsgate that I realised that the end of the pier was designed to look like a large ship. Even from this angle you get the idea, the buildings on the pier look like the bridge of a ship.

5 February 2012

For too long now everybody has been saying what a mild winter we are having. That all came to an end last night. We all awoke to find everywhere covered with snow.

Late afternoon on the main sands at Ramsgate, Kent. Already a very cold day, but with the wind chill the temperature was down to about -5.

29 January 2012

Today is a very sad day. We have to say goodbye to two very dear friends, two who we have had a very good and close relationship with. Sadly, in life all good things do come to an end and today is that day.

We took a walk along the seafront at Westgate today, sadly a lot of the buildings are looking very rundown. I hope that they get a facelift before the summer season starts.

1 January 2012

Yesterday marked the end of 2011 and the end of the daily posts on One A Day, but it's not the end for this website. The project started out as a challenge to myself, to see if I could take and post one photograph everyday for the whole of the year. I made it through to 31 December, sometimes it was tough, but most of the time it was fun and because of that I intend to carry on posting photographs throughout this year and maybe even further.

The only difference is that it isn't going to be done daily anymore. I intend to post interesting pictures when I've taken them, hopefully regularly.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to stop by and look at my photographs in 2011. Please come back now and again to see what's been going on, and don't forget to tell your friends about it.

Colin.
