Paint your face and shut the gate - Another piece of Thanet's history about to disappear. This is the old gate to the Ozonic soft drink factory on Margate Road, Broadstairs.

Woke up this morning with a feeling of despair - Front door to the lighthouse on the West Pier of Ramsgate's Royal Harbour.

How many roads must a man walk down? - Another bitterly cold day. I walked from Minnis Bay to Reculver and back again and couldn't believe the amount of rubbish along the shingle bank (quite a lot of Brent Geese too). Someone had even gone to the trouble of tying this plastic to a plant so it was...

A couple on rusty nuts and a groyne - I know they are bolts and not nuts, but that's not so funny. This is a close up of one of the groynes on the Western Undercliff beach at Ramsgate.

We owe all this to the salty brine - It was a very cold day today at Dumpton Gap, but as always the sea was magnificent. It's nice this time of the year as you very often get the beach totally to yourself.

Feel the power of the rain making the garden grow - Even on a wet and miserable rainy day you can still find something interesting to photograph. You just need to know where to look. What's really interesting is that if you look very closely each of these rain drops is reflecting a little upside down world.

I wish that I'd sail the darkened seas - All Carry On jokes aside, this building in Ramsgate's Royal Harbour has some beautiful features. Look at the hanging tiles beneath the arches on the first floor windows.

Allotment sheds - One of the great things about allotments is the sheds. Some allotment owners seem to be able to rescue long dead sheds and breath new life into them. Others can make a shed out of pretty much anything.

You sprinkled hot foot powder, around my door - This shot could of easily been taken in the backwoods of Tennessee or Mississippi, in fact you can almost here Robert Johnson as you walk around the place, but it's actually taken in Wingham, just a few miles away from Canterbury in Kent.

The Chilli Mountain - Lin and I spent all afternoon cooking Indian dishes for this evening.

Through the arched window today - not a lot really as the shutters are up on the bar on the beach at Whitstable.

I'd Like To Make Her Scream - I found this whilst on a trip to America. I was best man at a friends wedding in Las Vegas and for the Stag day/night I hired a Hummer and we spent the day out in the desert. No souvenir shops in the desert so I picked this up to remind me of the day.

I tried so very hard not to leave you alone..... - close up of a hot chocolate from Morelli’s in Broadstairs.

No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue - this is a close up of the ironwork at the start of the wall on Ramsgate's East Pier. For years it was left unpainted and I for one preferred it before they painted it black.

Spo-De-O-De - way back in 1997 I took some photographs for a book about Port. At the end of the shoot I was able to choose a bottle of Port to take home with me. I chose this bottle as it was a 1962 vintage and that was the year that both Lin and myself were born. Last night two friends, Colin and Debbie came over for dinner and we opened the bottle. Neither Lin or myself are experts, but Colin (landlord of Ramsgate's micro pub The Conqueror) and Debbie have a wealth of knowledge on alcoholic beverages and they both gave it the thumbs up! If you're wondering what the Port was it was a 1962 vintage Colheita from Quinta Do Castelinho.
Visit The Conqueror's website.

Just a shot away - I've always loved these shelters on the seafront at Deal, they have a real Art Deco feel to them, but I think they are more modern than that.

Pump It Up - After a evening trip to one of the DIY sheds to buy a water pump I will need a Sunday morning trip to another shed to buy the fittings for the pump! Nothing was included, still what do you expect for a tenner?

That Shallot - some of last year's shallots hanging up in the allotment shed to dry out.

Time - He flexes like a whore - I came across this totally by accident today. When I was four and living on the island of Alderney, back in 1966 I wanted a watch. My parents wouldn't buy me one until I could tell the time. I worked really hard and soon had a reasonable understanding of clock faces and hands. This watch was my reward, my very first timepiece and the number and hands even glowed in the dark. Even though the face is barely readable through the scratched glass it still works.

The herb, not the Brush - fresh basil, one of the world's greatest smells.

Humpin', Bumpin' And Thumpin' - I spent several hours working in a friend's garage today and on the top shelf was a very old tin of Chemico grinding paste. Interestingly, the tin contains two types of paste, fine in the top and coarse in the bottom. In case you are wondering what it is used for the back of the tin reads "This Compound is specially adapted for grinding Automobile Valves".

Watch the parkin' meters - I came across this Bob Dylan stencil in the entrance to an alley on The Old High Street in Folkestone.

Elvis Rocks! - Today would have been Elvis' 76th birthday. These three stones came from the grounds of Graceland, Elvis' home in Memphis, Tennessee.

7 January 2011

St Jame's Avenue, Broadstairs - I don't know who is in charge of the road signs in Thanet, probably someone at KCC, but I do think that they should brush up on their English.

6 January 2011

The head on my shoulders is sorta loose - almonds, much better for you than a chocolate bar! I raided the kitchen to look for a snack, it was either these nuts or a Mars bar. The Mars is still sitting in the fridge.

Get knotted - this will become part of my bed, just needs some wax applied first.

Whelk egg-case - I always thought these were fish egg cases, but apparently they're from whelks.

Indian Sketch Book - today I photographed some watercolours for a good friend of mine, Ruth Geldard. This photograph is the inside of one of her sketch books which she used on a trip to India. If you would like to see more of Ruth's work click here.

A sign of the times - sign on the door of The Lord Clyde pub in Walmer, Kent. Another pub only two minutes away had a notice saying that it was closing tonight.
